from Schools on the Outcome
of a Legacy of Hope®
Day
School
Counselor shares about the outcomes of the
Legacy of Hope®
Assembly,
followed by Susie meeting with over 100
students throughout the day in the
Counseling Office conference room, and
students filling out LEGACY's Survey
of Hope
(June, 2008):
"Our school was certainly impacted in
a positive way.
The students have come out of the
woodwork wanting to talk about their
problems, and
although they know I am available,
sometimes it takes an outside source to put
all of the
pieces together so they take that step
into getting help. It's been great!
We had just about 1/2 the school
(about 450 kids) complete the survey.
Like many students across the country
we had quite a few students who didn't
circle anything,
but we had a lot that showed concern
for others - excess stress was a biggie as
well as
depression.
A good portion was concerned about the
rage/violence and cutting, as well as
suicide. It will
be helpful to have these stats to keep
our staff aware that kids are struggling
with some pretty
heavy worries.
Also, about 50 kids identified that
they would like to be peer helpers, so I've
captured their
names and have been plugging away at
following up with them. We've also
started another
support group - and I talked with a
mom about returning to Al-anon with her
daughter - all
successes in my mind."
Legacy of Hope®

academic achievement. Create mutual commitment
to provide mental health resources and
address family and youth alcohol, drugs,

- PROVIDES statistics for use in getting
future grant funding.
